Education for Employability

Education for employability

Education for employability training in the new age must be geared towards an adaptable worker. In addition, we are facing a new age, a time of lock down due to a worldwide virus, altering the way businesses were conducted up to 26 March 2020. Specifically in South Africa, many businesses closed their doors, employees were dismissed and people were confined to their residences. The economy of South Africa was rewritten since 26 March 2020.

Thus, even more so, education will be required to educate and train a more adaptable employee.

“Sir Christopher Ball (1996) in describing the kind of learner profile that is suited to the 21st century, spoke about `flexible generalists`. Ball maintained that such people are needed to realise the goal of life-long learning which, with the ever-increasing human longevity, will characterise the successful citizenry of the next millennium. `Flexible generalists` are people equipped with the necessary knowledge, skills and values to adjust readily to multiple career changes and make, through their own personal development, a significant contribution to the life of this country and the world. The shift in thinking is from education for employment – developing the ability to do a specific job – to education for employability – developing the ability to adapt acquired skills to new working environments. The new education and training system must be able to support the notion of an adaptable workforce.” Read more by clicking here

Yuanxin (Amy) Yang Alcocer (2020) explains “Adaptable employees are a very important part of an adaptable company. Without adaptable employees, a company won’t and can’t adjust to changing market conditions.” Read more on http://study.com/academy/lesson/adaptable-employees-characteristics-importance.html

Since almost everything as we have done in South Africa up to 26 March 2020 have now changed and that is also the challenge that Milites Dei Academy (MDA) and Milites Dei Security Services (MDSS) is addressing.

Accordingly, the military style education and accredited qualifications took on a new approach and an intense new vigor. The student coming out of MDA and MDSS will hit the road of the workplace running. This student has worked and thus gained work experience during their studies. They are not only theorists but can do the skills and qualifications practically. Under the skillful guidance of instructors and mentors there is a new and focused energy to get students ready to be a flexible and adaptable worker.

Furthermore, MDA and MDSS have opened the avenue for students to study online. Although the major focus is still the tactical and practical application of military style courses, certain modules and qualifications are open to start in the comfort of students’ homes.
