The problem that we all face in South Africa is youth that cannot find employment. The CDE writes that ‘South Africa has one of the highest youth unemployment rates in the world (Biavaschi et al, 2012, p. 10). Approximately 50 per cent of all 18-24-year-olds were unemployed by the end of 2011 and the youth currently accounts for about 30 per cent of all the unemployed in the country, despite the fact that the cohort constitutes only 22 per cent of the working-age population’ (available on http://section27.org.za/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/Spaull-2013-CDE-report-South-Africas-Education-Crisis.pd).
In addition, NUMSA writes that ‘If all young people are considered in the calculation of youth unemployment then the actual youth unemployment rate was 47.5% for the third quarter of 2013. This means that 1 in every 2 young people cannot find a job and has very little chance of ever finding a job’ (available on http://www.numsa.org.za/article/south-africas-youth-unemployment-crisis/).
Part of the unemployment problem is that the youth do not have good qualifications to actually find a job. For a good qualification you need to pay a fee. At Milites Dei, we aim to assist the parent/sponsor to choose what should be included in the qualification so that the courses are affordable for everyone.
