ORIENTATION or PRE-SELECTION 26 to 30 July 2016

ORIENTATION or PRE-SELECTION 26 to 30 July 2016

The meaning of orientation is to familiarise yourself with something, in other words to understand a person’s basic attitude, beliefs, or feelings in relation to a particular subject or issue.

Today, Milites Dei will help participants understand what our courses and qualifications are all about. We will also,  test the student’s ability to actually complete the whole qualification with us.

Before you spend a lot of money on a qualification, first see if you are not maybe wasting your time and money. Anyway, the pre-selection is a lot of fun with many challenges and hurdles.

Our Courses are Affordable for Everyone

Our Courses are Affordable for Everyone

The problem that we all face in South Africa is youth that cannot find employment. The CDE writes that ‘South Africa has one of the highest youth unemployment rates in the world (Biavaschi et al, 2012, p. 10).  Approximately 50 per cent of all 18-24-year-olds were unemployed by the end of 2011 and the youth currently accounts for about 30 per cent of all the unemployed in the country, despite the fact that the cohort constitutes only 22 per cent of the working-age population’ (available on http://section27.org.za/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/Spaull-2013-CDE-report-South-Africas-Education-Crisis.pd).

In addition, NUMSA writes that ‘If all young people are considered in the calculation of youth unemployment then the actual youth unemployment rate was 47.5% for the third quarter of 2013. This means that 1 in every 2 young people cannot find a job and has very little chance of ever finding a job’ (available on http://www.numsa.org.za/article/south-africas-youth-unemployment-crisis/).

Part of the unemployment problem is that the youth do not have good qualifications to actually find a job. For a good qualification you need to pay a fee. At Milites Dei, we aim to assist the parent/sponsor to choose what should be included in the qualification so that the courses are affordable for everyone.

Begin with the End in Mind

Begin with the End in Mind

Stephen R Covey explains that ‘Begin with the End in Mind means to begin each day, task, or project with a clear vision of your desired direction and destination, and then continue by flexing your proactive muscles to make things happen faster’ (also see https://www.stephencovey.com/7habits/7habits-habit2.php).

12 Days to GO until our Pre-Selection Event thus come and see if this is what you are dreaming about, is this your vision? Is this what you are supposed to do with your life?

Covey continues and asks ‘Are you–right now–who you want to be, what you dreamed you’d be, doing what you always wanted to do? Be honest. Sometimes people find themselves achieving victories that are empty–successes that have come at the expense of things that were far more valuable to them. If your ladder is not leaning against the right wall, every step you take gets you to the wrong place faster’ (also see https://www.stephencovey.com/7habits/7habits-habit2.php).

Where to get the money for your studies?

Where to get money for your studies?

Seeking money for your studies

Where to get the money for your studies?

It is expensive to study but as explained before, to pay for studies is to invest in your future. In other words, if you pay, let us say R100 000 for a year, get good qualifications and get a job the next year with a salary of R10 000 per month, you pay back the R100 000 in one year in a job. Most significantly, you will keep on earning money every year thereafter. That is the true benefit of paying for education.

Ok, all fine and well to theorise about this, the reality is that a R100 000 is not growing on a tree for you to pick and pay for that education you desire and that you know will earn you a lot of money in the future. So, what can you do?

Possible Options

  1. RBH Homes states that ‘…the good news is, you can take advantage of the value of your property, also called equity, to cater for the enormous, but necessary, expense of your child’s higher education’ (also see http://rbahomes.co.za/plan-education/universities-in-south-africa). So borrow money on your house bond.
  2. Make a student loan at your bank. For FNB you can call 0861 40 40 40 and they will advice you what to do. Eduloan for Mpumalanga can be contacted at 015 295 4238. Visit the website of your bank and see the detail about student loans.
  3. Ask someone you know for a loan and repay them once you have a job. Remember Milites Dei will help you to get a job after you completed your studies.
  4. Ask someone you know to sponsor you.
  5. Ask Milites Dei about the Ambassador Programme.

Value for your Money at Milites Dei

Value for your Money at Milites Dei

RBH Homes writes that ‘…a four-year university course will come to a total of about R150 000 per year. Then, there are still living expenses and other costs to cover’ (also see http://rbahomes.co.za/plan-education/universities-in-south-africa).

Most beautifully about studying is that if you actually invest in your future, a R150 000 for instance for studies will be paid back to you in one year if you earn a salary of R17000 per month. But then you need the guarantee that you will get a job after paying so much for studies.

It is expensive to get education but then at least you must get value for your money. At Milites Dei we strive to do exactly that – give you value for your money. Below you will find what we offer our students:

  • Full FETC Qualification
  • Full Uniform and Gear
